For a topic overview, consult Oxford Art Online, gateway to Grove Art Online.  This database covers all aspects of the visual arts worldwide from prehistory to the present day. All 45,050 articles from the print edition of Grove's Dictionary of Art are accessible by keyword search and include over 3,000 thumbnail art images and line drawings displayed in the text of articles, plus over 40,000 links to important art images in galleries and museums around the world. Also includes The Oxford Companion to Western Art, edited by Hugh Brigstocke (2001), The Concise Oxford Dictionary of Art Terms by Michael Clarke and Deborah Clarke, and Encyclopedia of Aesthetics edited by Michael Kelly (1998). Articles that have been added or updated since their appearance in print are date-stamped in the upper right corner of the screen. All new content continues to be written and peer reviewed by scholars and specialists.

To locate journal articles and books on your topic, search these electronic resources:  Art Full Text and JSTOR .

Art Full Text indexes (1984+) and abstracts (1994+) articles from more than 480 periodicals, many of them peer-reviewed, published throughout the world. Subjects covered include advertising art, antiques, archaeology, architecture and architectural history, art history, computers in art, crafts, decorative arts, fashion design, folk art, graphic arts, industrial design, interior design, landscape architecture, motion pictures, museology, non-western art, painting, photography, pottery, sculpture, television, textiles and video. Coverage includes the full text of 160 journals beginning in January 1997. In addition to articles, Art Full Text indexes reproductions of works of art that appear in indexed periodicals.

JSTOR includes an extensive archive of journals in 30 subject disciplines in the Arts and Sciences, including classical studies, history, language and literature, the history and study of art and architecture, cultural studies, film, folklore, performing arts, philosophy, political science, sociology, and religion. Records are presented in high-resolution page images in combination with full-text searching.  JSTOR contains many books reviews; you can then search for a book in the Pepperdine Libraries Catalog or in WorldCat.  Books found in WorldCat that are not owned by Pepperdine can be obtained through InterLibrary Loan.
