Q: What is an Archive?

A: A place where institutional records or other important historic documents are kept.

At the Pepperdine University Archives, these include:

  • Personal letters from George Pepperdine.
  • Minutes of the meetings of the Board of Trustees
  • Personal papers of previous Presidents and Deans.
  • Historic photographs
  • ... and much more!

An archival collection of nearly complete runs of Pepperdine yearbooks, newspapers, newsletters, and other official publications of the University is also maintained in this area. This collection is supplemented by several hundred linear feet of files from University personnel, offices and donors connected to the University. Over 8,000 photographs and numerous other items including scrapbooks from affiliate organizations, freshman beanies, gavels, baccalaureate cap and gowns, as well as other memorabilia have also been retained.

The University Archives is a unit of the Special Collections Department located on the third floor of Payson Library. Please note that archival materials do not circulate and must be used in the Archives Room.
